Several years ago, I moved from Orillia to Sudbury for college. I had never left the Orillia area and was finally doing it at the age of 23. I did not know anyone in Sudbury, which was kind of exciting, as it meant a fresh start. I was sitting in my communications class one day when the teacher announced that she was the cross-country running coach and was looking for people to try out. I decided to talk to her at the end of class and told her that I loved to run, but I was a smoker. She told me to come to the practice anyways and she would see then what my potential was. I made the team! That season we travelled to races every weekend, and even flew out to Nationals in Kamloops. I had created and attracted a community of driven, hard working humans, that was the turning point in my life. That was the moment I knew that there was something bigger out there for me.
Over the next couple of years, I fought fate/my bigger picture vision and worked in restaurants in Barrie, then Toronto and then back to Orillia. Moving back to Orillia was the final turning point in my life, well up until the next one, I guess. I started working at a restaurant again and decided that it was not enough, I needed to go back to school. So, I did and here I am.
The past five years have been huge personal growth years. I have spent hours reflecting and assessing where and who I want to be. I am on the right path.
· I have been on the Dean’s list a few semesters, which has felt amazing!
· I continue to make fitness a healthy part of my life
· I strive to create positive connections
· I hold myself accountable for my behaviors and actions
· I remain open to hard conversations
· I put effort into my school and life
· I love myself and the direction I am heading!
After reading this, I am sure you have a sense of the type of human I am. I have not always done things the easy way, nor have things always been easy. BUT, I believe that my optimistic mind and resilient nature has led me through the sh** and to the light. After having identified my personal brand in this paper, I know that I am well on my way to developing my professional edge!
